Music reflects culture and society, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in. Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music is a highly academic and demanding subject which requires the development of skills which can be applied to many other subjects. It also plays an important part in helping children to feel part of a community.

We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children.  

In Early Years and at Key Stage 1 children learn to find and control their singing voice and learn basic musical skills. These are then built on and developed at Key Stage 2 to include composition, improvisation and note reading.

Children throughout the school have the opportunity to sing and play instruments. We use music from different cultures, genres and eras to give the children a breadth of experience. We value the benefit of performing so singing and music is central to our class assemblies and the many productions across the school.

We run a number of extra curricular music clubs including 2 choir clubs at KS1 and 2 and KS2 orchestra and recorder clubs. We find opportunities for performances both within the school and the wider community.

 Summer Term 2019  - KS2 choir attended a singing day at Frederick Bremmer School . They learnt songs together and were coached by the pupils  as well as the teachers.  Parents were invited to attend the short concert at the end of the day. This was a great day out and the children really enjoyed singing more challenging songs alongside the older Frederick Bremmer pupils.
